Practice

I first took refuge in 2015 with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche while I was studying on a buddhist program in Bodh Gaya, India. In the spring of 2019 I spent three months serving as a helper on this same retreat. During that time, I made strong aspirations to be able to participate on this retreat in the spring of 2020. I asked my teacher if this would be beneficial, and he said I should definitely do this retreat and that it would extremely beneficial. While working at these centres I have been able to do shorter retreats, but this will be my first opportunity to participate on a longer retreat. I hope to use my practice and career to benefit beings and to best serve the dharma.

About

My name is Molly Mansfield, I am 24 years old. At University I studied religion and environmental studies, with a focus on the intersection between these two fields. Since graduating from University, I have been working as a program coordinator for different study abroad programs in Bhutan and Bodh Gaya, India, as well as working for Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche at his centres in California and France. My hope is that this retreat will allow me to deepen my practice, and provide a strong foundation for dharma to permeate all aspects of my life. In the future, I am interested in working with palliative care, and I am particularly interested in how we can use Buddhist practices to better care for the dying.

Purpose

I am fundraising for a three month dzogchen retreat at Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche's retreat centre in Gomde Pyrenees. My teacher has strongly encouraged me to participate on this retreat, and I hope this fundraiser will allow me to make this dream possible. The retreat is based on the practices of Vajrasattva and Korde Rushen – the preliminary practices of the Great Perfection as explained by Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche in the text Sphere of Refined Gold. There will be two group practice sessions of Vajrasattva and protectors per day, and 4 individual sessions.

Cost breakdown

I am raising funds to cover the expenses of a three month dzogchen retreat that I am planning to attend this spring. The retreat itself costs $2,700 USD, and I will also have to pay for airfare/travel which will be an additional $1000.
