I was introduced to the Dharma in my youth, but started pursuing practice and study in earnest two years ago after experiencing a loss which forced me to recognize impermanence and the futility of taking refuge in anything, but the three jewels.
I practice shamatha-vipashyana an hour in the morning and in the evening and focus my study primarily on learning how to practice basic sitting meditation without getting lost in thought so I can face and understand whoever or whatever I am.
Until recently, I spent most of my life in a kind of auto-pilot driven by hope and fear. Always looking for an external reason to feel good and look forward to the future, I took refuge in friends, career, materialism and lovers to distract myself from the truth of suffering.
I now live to understand reality without the distortion of my grasping, aversion and ignorance and to face my kleshas with the bravery and hard-work necessary to overcome them.
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
I am fund-raising to attend my first 1-month datun from November 6 to December 6, 2021.
The datun will follow the intensive group retreat style introduced by Trungpa Rinpoche. Each day consists of a full schedule of alternating sitting and walking meditation. Meals will be taken using the traditional Zen contemplative eating practice of oryoki.
The datun is an opportunity to develop familiarity with the sitting practice which helps to make friends with ourselves and circumstances, and to re-discover our fundamental awake nature.
My offering is to practice and study the Dharma as much as I can with a view to developing myself so that I may help others.
I am attending a one-month Shamatha-Vipashyana datun at Dorje Denma Ling in Nova Scotia, Canada.
The total cost is $1.870.00. I am asking for $920.00, plus $80 transaction fees - i.e. $1,000.00 in total.
