I was first introduced to Shambhala in 2014. By the end of that year, I had taken Levels 1-5 and had fallen in love with Karmê Chöling in Barnet, VT. Three years later, I am grateful and proud to live and work at KCL.

My primary teacher is the sangha -- the assembly of warriors gathered to stand together against setting sun vision, beyond accepting and rejecting. In the meditation hall, I practice shamatha, Shambhala Meditation, and the Shambhala Sadhana.

I am an avid student of Eva Wong's qigong and taoist studies. A regular qigong practice supports my overall well-being.

I was born and raised in New Jersey. I went to college in Massachusetts and never left -- or, more accurately, every time I left I was drawn back again. In my life in MA, I worked for 9 years as a software engineer at a wonderful web development company that enabled publishing houses, educational institutions, and non-profits to have an elegant online presence.

Following that, in a complete turn-about, I trained to be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aid (HHA) and spent a year caring for geriatrics in their homes.

Now I live and work at Karmê Chöling, a dream that took me two years to bring to fruition.

My birth name is Joy Nicholson. In March 2015, I took refuge in the Buddha, the dharma and the sangha, with Rupa Acharya Suzann Duquette as preceptor. I was given the name Tsöndrü Terzö Wangmo -- "Extertion Treasure Lady". I have gratefully incorporated this name into my life and am now called Tsöndrü Joy Nicholson.

Main teachers

Directly: Rupa Acharya Suzann Duquette, Eva Wong; Indirectly: Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Warrior Assembly is the next step in my path of Shambhala Warriorship. This Warrior Assembly will be in Chile. It will a long trip to get there and back, but this is the timing that makes the most sense for my life right now.

This Assembly will be part of a deepening of my dharma studies and my path of Shambhala Warriorship. I believe that anyone studying and practicing the dharma is making a positive contribution to society.

More specifically: I offer my service in the form of Kasungship as a member of the Iron Wolf Dorje Kasung squad at Karmê Chöling; I offer my continued exertions as an employee and sangha member at KCL; I offer my intention to continue along the path of Warriorship.
