It's hard to pinpoint exactly when the word dharma first came into my life, but it was probably at least 8 years ago when I attended a retreat with Thich Nhat Hanh, I then did another retreat with monks from Plum Village - the first surfing and meditation retreat, in Cornwall, England! :)
But I have to say the dharma has really only entered my life with a sense of urgency and profound depth in the last year. I started to visit Gomde, Scotland, one of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche's world wide retreat centres, last July where I attended a seminar on Medicine and Compassion with Dr David Schlim. I have been a regular visitor and helper there since then.
I began the Tara's Triple Excellence Online Programme last October and I am just completing the First Excellence. I completed a three week Tara Retreat at Gomde Scotland with Lama Tenzin this July and that was followed a few weeks later by a visit from Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, where I received the outer Tara empowerment, and the Guru Rinpoche empowerment, I also took refuge and received my new name Kunsang Chokyi - Ever Excellent Dharma Joy :)
I could not have predicted how my life has changed since that moment. I have packed my bags and bought a one way ticket to Nepal, since then many things have fallen into place. A place has opened up on the Annual Tara Retreat and Pilgrimage to Maratika Caves and then I have a room in an apartment so that I can stay on and attend Chokyi Nyima Rinpoches annual fall seminar and also take classes at the Rangjang Yeshe Institute in Kathmandu. I feel that an opportunity like this does not come so easily, I have never travelled to Nepal before and I have given up my job and my home to do so, it feels that now is the time to travel and connect more deeply to the precious dharma teachings.
I am an artist, healer, carer and gardener.
Until last week I was living and working close to the Findhorn Community in North East Scotland, where I worked as a carer for a number of older people, including the last living founder Dorothy McClean who is 99 years old.
I am 46 years old, the first part of my life was taken up with single parenthood and working in many part time jobs and as an artist, my son who is now 27 lives and works in Japan.
I recently trained as an energetic cellular healer, and I am interested in the connection between light and health, and in the power of images to heal.
Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche
A place has opened up for me to attend the annual Tara Retreat at Pharping with Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche and Lama Tenzin.
During this year’s retreat we will receive instructions on the Preliminary Practices
(ngöndro). Additionally, we will also practice together the Outer Tara Sadhana.
Moreover, Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche has kindly agreed to grant the empowerment(s)
required for the Tara’s Triple Excellence meditation program, however, which ones
exactly we will receive, Rinpoche will decide once the retreat starts.
At Maratika we together with Lama Tenzin and other senior Lamas from Ka-Nying Monastery, will visit the sites and have an opportunity to chant important prayers and meditate at these special places. We will practice together the Red Amitayus sadhana and make a Tsok offering and a possibly also a Sangh offering.
After the retreat and pilgrimage I intend to takes a week's class at Rangjang Yeshe Institute with a view to undertaking more studies there, and to attend Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche's Annual Fall Seminar, and to attend daily meditations at Ka-Nying Shedrub Ling Monastery. I have a room in an apartment lined up for one or two months. I am open to what wants to unfold.
I can offer you a healing, an image, and I can include you in my prayers.
